Matthew Levinson

My name is Matthew Levinson. I was born on July 5th, 1988 in Rochester, NY, where I currently reside and create art. My artwork is an exploration into form, color, space, and texture. I attempt to display my visions and feelings by using these attributes to create unique and dynamic artworks. As the artist, my attention is focused on the nature of form itself rather than on what it represents. Regardless, I am still trying to convey energies based on the nature of these forms and how they are constructed together into a composition.

My process to start a new piece begins with a conceptual drawing phase. If I like a drawing, I will begin to refine that idea or concept, adding many layers of color and textures to achieve depth, which brings the artwork to life. I try to work organically instead of planned, letting inspiration come to me at the moment, especially in the early stages before forms and structures become too defined. That is where I believe most of the magic happens.
