Kim McAninch
Biography 1964 - Born, Lakewood, Ohio. Kim McAninch, received a B.F.A. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Kim, a member of the National Association of Women Artists and American Women Artists, currently works in Stony Point NY and Siesta Key FL. Her background as a fabric, wallpaper and interior designer has laid the groundwork for her unique painterly style. Through the expressive use of brush and palette knife, she conveys an emotion, a mood and the pure joy of color. Her work offers elusive and intangible qualities to the viewer, who in turn add personal experience, giving life to her work. Kim McAninch’s work is collected worldwide, including Bahrain, Ireland and England. Her success is highlighted by 2 residencies on Cape Cod and awards from the National Association of Women Artists. She exhibits regularly and teaches classes on palette knife painting techniques. ARTIST STATEMENT I am exhilarated by the visual dance between the figurative and abstract. My body of work fulfills my natural, uninhibited desire to scratch the surface in a gestural, painterly manner toward accuracy, offering more information with less detail. I realize the principles that govern each piece of my art will not be applicable in the next. Each is a journey unto its own. I believe that it is the constant, tightening of the process throughout a lifetime of creating that makes an artist’s work unique, closer to one’s own, more virtuous. I am using my unique voice, striving for harmony of color and rhythm in each composition, offered from my head & heart. Education 1986 – B.F.A.
